The workshop
Four people, two benches and a stack of numbered beams in a stone barn below Bonnieux.

From beam to piece
We buy the beam
From barns, mills and farmhouses being rebuilt around the Luberon. We write down what it held up and when the building went up.
We number it
Each beam gets a number painted on its end. That number follows every offcut until the last piece is made.
We pull the nails and rest it
Old nails come out by hand. The beam rests in the workshop for six weeks so it settles to the room.
We cut and join
Pieces are marked out around the checks and nail holes worth keeping. Joints are cut, glued and pegged with oak pegs.
We oil and brand it
Two coats of linseed oil and beeswax. Then the beam number, year and village are burnt into the underside.
Two of us deliver it
In the week you chose, carried to the room you want it in.
